A New TikTok Ban Initiative Has Returned In 2024
A lot is happening in 2024. In the U.S. in November the country will have its presidential election and things are heating up. It so happens a foreign and popular app, TikTok, has gotten a lot of backlash due to a lack of privacy security and its ties to ByteDance.
Since Trump left office after losing the election in 2020, he was unsuccessful at banning TikTok. It has been a reoccurring theme for the past four years to ban the app because of its ties to a Chinese company called ByteDance.
A House panel cleared the way for a bill to force TikTok to be divested into an American company, according to the AP. The bill will be presented before congress and the senate, which means it needs to have the votes to effectively enact a nationwide ban.
The Biden Administration Joined TikTok A Month Ago
What is strange is that the Biden Administration never pursued the ban actively and instead negotiated with company executives from TikTok throughout his first term. And strange to say that Biden joined TikTok even though the app is banned on federal devices.
