An Au Pair’s tale in the land of 10,000 lakes

Minn. (MN) — an au pair is a term that gets from time to time uttered in social gatherings among young adults. It can be referred to as a nanny or domestic assistant. The association has been around for generations and large majorities of au pairs come from foreign countries looking to explore the culture and to learn the American way of life.

The title comes from French meaning “equal to” or “on a par”. These exchange students from afar, through the different agencies at some point seek become a member of a family that chooses them. The term au pair is rooted in Europe and began to appear after World War II. Currently in the United States there are 16 sponsoring au pair agencies designated by the State Department.

The North Star State is one of those places that would not be an evident tourist attraction overseas.
