By now you should have heard that TikTok faces a potential ban in the United States. I have reported and written several articles on the matter.

I reached out Dean Phillips, Representative for Minnesota’s Third Congressional District, about the TikTok ban. Here is the response from his office below.

Email response from Dean Philips’ office.

I couple of remarks regarding his reply and what is interesting about it.

“Banning certain media platforms could lead to a slippery slope. That’s why I favor enhancing privacy standards and penalties for all apps and placing guardrails around artificial intelligence. To that end, I believe that the right to privacy is fundamental, and we must ensure that right is protected in our increasingly interconnected world.”

A slippery slope is a course of action that is undesirable since TikTok has 150 million users based in the U.S. and great for market competition. In addition, in the same paragraph he asserted he is in favor of enhancing privacy standards and enforcing penalties for all apps.

Until when will we have to wait to have comprehensive legislation and laws enacted to hold…
