Elementary Schools In Minnesota Targeted By Cyberattacks
Today we are surrounded by a lot of technology and the dependence on the internet has transformed everything for the good and the bad. Don’t get me wrong when I say this, yet it has revealed the challenges that lie ahead and what to do.
According to an analysis by Comparitech, You probably heard that two large school districts in Minnesota were rocked due to a cyberattack in 2023. Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) was targeted by a hacker group known as Medusa and for Rochester Public Schools (RPS) by an unidentified group. Both of these events exposed vulnerabilities and a new opportunity to revamp security.
The cyber event for MPS affected 32,772 students and was ranked as the fourth most serious cyber breach. On the other hand, the data attack at RPS was ranked 7th overall.
Why Target Elementary Schools?
Part of the answer is data is worth a lot of dollars. In addition, the student data that was exposed gave cyber criminals negotiating power to coerce stakeholders for both of these schools districts.
