Gov. Walz and Lt. Gov. Flannagan propose a bold and significant budget for education
After two very rough years with the pandemic and lockdowns, there is definitely room for optimism and hope for education. As reported by Education Minnesota on Tuesday, Governor Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flannagan have proposed a historic budget of $12 billion.
The state surplus stands at $17.6 billion. This historic proposal represents three fourths of the budget. The investment would be $6 billion for education and the other half for childcare. The announcement is nothing but a cry for joy and comprehensive initiative to start curbing the consequences left behind from the COVID-19 pandemic that included civil unrest with the George Floyd unrest in 2020.
The President of Education Minnesota, Denise Specht, released a statement on what are the implications of this newly announced budget by the Governor’s office.
