Are your children, teens or for the most part younger users spending many hours in front of their smartphone devices? The answer is yes and it is no longer myth. It is a current and ongoing crisis.

As reported by a study from the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health, social media companies together made an eye-opening amount in advertising revenue from minors.

It begs the question how did this happen? When did this phenomenom become so normalized? The answer is two-fold. One is the access a smartphone and adoption of smartphones. In addition, using social media for younger users became a normal thing to do in this era.

The architects behind this study have suggested that social media companies have failed at protecting the privacy of users under the age of 18.

“The researchers say the findings show a need for government regulation of social media since the companies that stand to make money from children who use their platforms have failed to meaningfully self-regulate…”
