Social Media Platforms Fined Approximately $2.9 billion For GDPR Breaches

Social media violations are not an ordinary thing anymore. They used to be frowned upon, but now it seems normal to pay historic fines are the expense of harvesting user data without their consent or permission.

According to a Surfshark study, social media platforms have been fined €2.9B. In addition, out of that total amount €765M was levied against social media platforms for failing to protect children’s data.

One of the pieces of legislation that has enforced protection of user data is the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). In other words, the European Union (E.U.) utilizes this apparatus to regulation information privacy.
