US School District Sues All Major Social Networks Because Of The Harm Done To Kids
As we have normalized the use of smartphones and social media in daily lives a crisis has reached its peak. The Seattle Public Schools (SPS) filed a lawsuit on January 6, 2023 against Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Alphabet (Google), TikTok and TikTok. Basically the largest social media platforms.
The SPS lawsuit alleges that these companies are part of the growing and current youth mental health crisis. In addition, all of these social media companies have intentionally designed, refined and operated their platforms to exploit the neurophysiology of younger users.
The goal of the lawsuit is not to eliminate social media. Rather to consider the consequences it has led to since public schools are dealing with the crisis as a result of the pandemic and use of these popular online apps. Part of the goal of the lawsuit can be found in the school’s site below:
