The United States Passes Up The Opportunity To Elect A Woman As President
The United States on November 5, 2024 voted in increasing numbers for Donald J. Trump to President and Vice-president J.D Vance. After losing his re-election campaign in 2020, he will return to his old post, which has far reaching implications.
It seems we have traveled back in time. We are back in 2016 when it was a Hillary Clinton vs. Trump campaign season. Nevertheless, the commonality between both elections comes down to defeating a woman running for president. In other words, at two historical points when the U.S. nominated a woman to run for the highest office ended up losing the election.
Why did they lose? The question is an interesting one to entertain because women continue to increase their visibility in occupying positions in today’s society. However, why did both end up losing to Trump who has a complicated personality in American politics? Some of it has to do with the fact that for over 248 years the country has not voted in a majority to give the pleasure and privilege to a woman.
