The conversation about privacy and data harvesting gets often overlooked frequently. Well, in 2024 it should be more than a discussion, but centered on formulating new proposals about how to protect our data.

As reported by Surfshark’s study of 100 popular apps over several categories the research suggested an alarming practice. The study found that YouTube collects the most data, which is not surprising. In addition, Spotify, your favorite app for music and podcast platform, along with SoundCloud track the most collected data points.

“Analyzing 100 popular apps on the App Store, we’ve found a concerning trend: nearly 20% of collected data is used for tracking. Such tracked data can be shared with third-party advertisers or data brokers, who use it to deliver personalized ads targeting the users, or aid companies in market research,” says Agneska Sablovskaja, Lead Researcher at Surfshark. “Understanding an app’s privacy policy is crucial for safeguarding digital autonomy.”
