TikTok Banned On U.S Government Devices
Here we go again! It looks like the TikTok ban saga is far from over. According to an CNBC report published December 23, TikTok is banned under the new spending bill passed by both chambers escalating tensions between the west and China.
President Joe Biden will need to sign off on this bill unless if there is a request to changes portions to the bill. Two months earlier, I wrote that Biden’s team was working closely with TikTok with the goal of easing the tensions that U.S user data was getting accessed by the Chinese government.
The news of the ban on federal devices disappointed TikTok. The TikTok spokesperson released this statement:
“We’re disappointed that Congress has moved to ban TikTok on government devices — a political gesture that will do nothing to advance national security interests…”
Nevertheless, while these moves to ban the app have been happening it overshadows the national security review, which is to conclude soon and meet the national security guidelines for TikTok to continue to operate on U.S soil.
